What is the best time for gorilla trekking in Uganda?

The best time for gorilla trekking in Uganda is during the dry seasons, which occur from June to September and December to February. During these months, the trails in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park are less muddy, making trekking easier. Additionally, the dry weather enhances your chances of spotting gorillas as they tend to move closer to accessible areas.

While the wet seasons (March to May and October to November) bring more challenging trekking conditions, they also offer fewer crowds and lush vegetation, which is perfect for photography enthusiasts. Also, the lodges tend to offer discounts to attract tourists to stay at their establishments.

What is the age limit for gorilla trekking in Uganda?

Uganda Wildlife Authority set the age limit for gorilla trekking in Uganda at 15 years and above. This restriction ensures the safety of both trekkers and the gorillas. Younger children are more likely to transmit common illnesses, such as colds or flu, to the gorillas, which gorillas may contract. Additionally, the physical demands and potential risks of trekking through dense forests make it unsuitable for younger participants. Also, young people may be frightened by their first sight of the gorillas, which may make them scream or react in a way that may frighten the gorillas as well.
