Kibale National Park

Kibale national park, also known as the “Primate Capital of the world” is one of the top primate destinations in Uganda. Home to 13 primate species, the park is one of the best for primate enthusiasts. Kibale’s top attraction is the Kanyanchu Primate Walk, where visitors can encounter up to thirteen primate species, including a variety of diurnal monkeys. This popular activity allows participants to witness chimpanzees in their natural habitat. The chimpanzee groups in Kanyanchu are highly accustomed to human presence, with some observed for over 25 years, resulting in a sighting probability of over 95%. Walks depart from the Kanyanchu Visitor Centre at 8:00 AM, 11:00 AM, and 2:00 PM, lasting between two to five hours. Visitors are advised to arrive early for registration and a briefing. Kibale is also a biodiversity hotspot, home to over 120 mammal species, including baboons, elephants, bush pigs, buffalos, and antelopes. The forest hosts approximately 370 bird species, including 23 Albertine Rift endemics like Nahan’s francolin, Cassin’s spinetail, blue-headed bee-eater, and lowland masked apalis.

Location

Kibale National Park is situated in the Kabarole District of western Uganda, a region rich in cultural heritage. The park lies close to Fort Portal, the largest town in the district. Best Time to Visit Kibale National Park

The best time to visit Kibale National Park is during the dry seasons, when trekking and hiking conditions are most favorable:

Dry Seasons (December to February and June to September)
